The Columbus KTC will be hosting the dinner meal at the YWCA Family Shelter on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at 6:00.

The YWCA Family Center is a facility for homeless families in Franklin County. The center offers safe, comfortable accommodations for families who are experiencing an immediate housing crisis. The center also offers critical services such as child care, legal help, assistance with job searches, and tutoring for school-age children.
The Y-Family Center depends on local organizations to prepare and serve meals to the families each evening of the year. Columbus KTC center has signed up to serve dinner at the YWCA Family Center on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25th.

There are several ways you can help with this project:

Donations- The estimate for the cost of the meal is $200-250. Donations can be given to me or directly to the KTC Treasurer, Steve Phallen.

Preparing Dinner- We will start preparing the food as early as possible on Thanksgiving Day at the YWCA Center. A start time will be posted after we get confirmation from the YWCA Center staff. We need 2 volunteers to do the cooking, and I plan on being one of them.

Prepare Deserts- We are asking for volunteers to prepare the deserts. Ideally this will be done beforehand and delivered to the YWCA for the meal.

Serving Dinner- We need approximately 8 volunteers to help serve dinner and clean up on Thursday evening. The two dinner shifts are at 6:00 and 7:00 and those not cooking should plan on arriving by 5:00.

Clean up- This will start right after people finish their meal. We should be done with the clean up by 8:30 pm.

Interacting with the kids- In addition to serving, please consider coming to read or play board games with the children. If there are enough donations we will have coloring books and crayons for the kids. They really love it!

Donating books and diapers- Please consider donating new or used childrens books to the library at the YWCA Family Center. Additionally, please consider donating disposable diapers – any size is great! The Y-Family Center has many little bottoms to keep warm and dry.
