First Light – Prayers For World Peace – Sunrise on New Year’s Day
In the Tibetan tradition, it is said that what you do on new year’s day sets the tone for the year to come.
Please join us as the sun rises on the first day of 2011 to pray for peace in our world. This effort was first organized by KTD staffer (and former Columbus KTC member) Michael Doran in 2000. Little did we know at that time, that the first ever First Light Ceremony would coincide with His Holiness Karmapa’s dangerous escape from Tibet!
So this year, as we celebrate the new year together, we can also celebrate the connection we have to the dharma, our teachers, and each other.
Join us at 7:00am on Saturday, January 1st
(You can come straight from the new year’s eve party if you like! You don’t even have to fix your makeup!)
7:00am – Shrine opening
7:15am – Lighting of 108 lamps
7:30am- Prayers and practice as follows
Tashi Prayer
Lamp offering prayers in English 3x
Chenrezig/Amitabha sadhana
3rd Karmapa’s Mahamudra Aspiration Prayer
King of Aspirations/ Samantabhadra’ s Aspiration
I hope to see you there! And feel free to bring a vegetarian dish to share!
