The Columbus Karma Thegsum Chöling is a KarmaKagyu meditation center under the guidance of the 17th GyalwaKarmapa, Urgyen Trinley Dorje. Columbus KTC is guided by the meditation mastersBardor Tulku Rinpoche and Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche of Karma TriyanaDharmachakra Monastery in Woodstock, NY.| "Karma Thegsum Chöling" is a Tibetan name meaning "Place of the Buddha's Teaching of the Three Vehiclesof the Karma Kagyu Tradition." Karma refers to the Karma Kagyu lineage, sometimes referred to as "the practice lineage" because of its emphasis on meditation. Thegsum "Theg" (proununced Tek) means "vehicle" and "Sum" means "three"- meaning that the KTC teaches all three "vehicles" (or yanas) of Buddhism:Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana. Chöling "Chö" means Dharma and "Ling" means place. |
Columbus KTC is a place for meditation, meditation instruction and other Buddhist practices. It's a center where people interested in Tibetan Buddhism can learn about the Karma Kagyu tradition through classes, our newsletter, and our library.
Background of the center
The Columbus KTC was founded in September 1977 by The Venerable Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, a Tibetan monk andlama. The group met in various locations until moving to its present location in 1990, the former Rich Street Church of Christ in historic Franklinton.
The center currently serves about 50 families, and has amailing list of more than 500 people.
Columbus KTC is one of more than three dozen centers in North and South Americaunder the direction of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in Woodstock, N.Y.
